Kim believes that a sustainable ocean policy is a delicate balance between the values of the community and the natural needs of the ecosystem. She brings this forward-thinking approach to all her efforts to shape effective marine conservation laws and policies. She has served on several tasks forces, including the State of Hawaii Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force; in addition, Kim has worked on local, national and international ocean law issues with organizations including Earthjustice, Oceana, Environmental Law Institute, Hawaii Audubon Society, KAHEA and the State of Hawaii and as a marine policy analyst for The Pacific Fisheries Coalition. As a private sector consultant, Kim’s work has ranged from providing legal advice to a software company to managing a start-up company. Kim has co-authored several publications, including a governance report on Marine Protected Areas in Hawaii and a legal and policy analysis of the impacts of the marine aquarium trade in the Indo-Pacific Region.
